Lt. Lia Park -Little Free Library

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Councilwoman Debi Rose helped unveil the Little Free Library during "It's My Park Day" at Lt. Lia Park in St. George Saturday morning.
The library is intended to promote literacy and will house a collection of books for Staten Islanders to enjoy. Those wishing to share one of their own books can drop it off at the library.
"For people of any age, books open up a world of opportunities and possibilities," Rose said in a statement. "In a day when so many people are glued to smartphones and social media, I hope that this Little Free Library will remind Staten Islanders of all ages of the joy of reading books.
"Built by Staten Islanders on the North Shore of Staten Island, the Little Free Library will also be maintained by the local community," the statement continues. "That's the beauty of this concept. The Little Free Library belongs to everyone, and so it will engender a sense of community around Lt. Lia Park."
The Little Free Library was built at Staten Island Makerspace with the help of H.E.A.L.T.H for Youths volunteers and placed in Lt. Lia Park in collaboration with the NYC Parks Department.
